Matt Phillip earns Super Rugby call-up

Hard working Sydney Uni forward Matt Phillip will get his first crack at Super Rugby after being named in the Western Force’s 26-man squad to tour South Africa. The 22-year old Manly junior trained in Perth during the June Test window and impressed interim coach Dave Wessels enough to earn a spot in the touring party. Phillip was picked in the Australian Schoolboys side in 2012 and the Australian U20s in 2013 and 2014 and was a standout in the Sydney Stars NRC campaign last year. Former Waratahs and Eastern Suburbs flyhalf Jono Lance has also been named in the squad and is expected to play his first match in 14 weeks after injuring his pectoral in round three. The Force play the Cheetahs on Sunday. Western Force Touring Squad: Ainsley, Alcock, Brache, Coleman, Cottrell, Cowan (c), D Haylett-Petty (vc), Faulkner, Godwin, Grant, Hardwick, Lance, Louwrens, Masirewa, Millar, Morahan, Phillips, Prior, R Haylett-Petty, Rangi, Rasolea, Scoble, Stander, Tapuai, Van Wyk, Walton.
